Hondo is the county seat of Medina County, located about 40 miles west of San Antonio on US Highway 90 at the edge of the Texas Hill Country. The city has a population of roughly 9,000 to 10,000 people and is widely known for its famous roadside sign - "This is God's Country, Please Don't Drive Through It Like Hell" - which has greeted visitors at the edge of town for decades and is one of the most recognized landmarks in the region. The local economy draws from agriculture and ranching, with Medina County known as one of Texas's stronger farming counties. A number of residents commute into San Antonio while living in Hondo for the lower cost of living and more relaxed pace.
The housing stock in Hondo is primarily single-family detached homes, with the oldest neighborhoods concentrated near the downtown square and newer construction spreading out toward the city limits and into the surrounding county. Most homes are two to three bedrooms in ranch-style layouts with brick or stucco exteriors - practical designs that were well-suited to their era but are now overdue for insulation upgrades. Homeowners in nearby Castroville face many of the same conditions, and we serve that area as well. If you are in Hondo or anywhere in Medina County, reach out for a free assessment.
